In a shocking incident that unfolded in Federal Way, Washington, a mother was brutally attacked and her seven-month-old baby kidnapped by two individuals posing as Amazon delivery drivers. The harrowing event took place on February 20, 2024, at the Mariposa apartment complex, located just 20 miles south of Seattle.
Authorities received multiple 911 calls reporting a woman who appeared distressed and tied up, holding her child. Witnesses described her as hysterical and in need of help, revealing that someone had abducted her other child. The 30-year-old victim shared that she had opened her door, believing she was receiving an Amazon package, only to be violently assaulted. The attackers, who quickly overpowered her, tied her up and made off with her infant, placing the child in an Amazon box.
The victim’s husband, who was working as a food delivery driver at the time of the attack, arrived shortly after the incident. He expressed disbelief and anger upon hearing the details, emphasizing a desire for immediate action against the perpetrators. The urgency of the situation escalated as the victim communicated with officers through a Spanish-speaking neighbor, detailing the attack and the physical characteristics of her assailants.
As police conducted a thorough search of the apartment, it became evident that the attackers had intimate knowledge of the victim’s living situation. The mother had only moved into the apartment eight days prior, and the identity of the attackers raised critical questions about how they knew her. Surveillance footage later revealed that the suspects had arrived in a white sedan and had been loitering near the victim’s apartment before the abduction.
Investigators soon turned their attention to the victim’s own family, uncovering troubling information. The victim’s cousin, Margie Harina Arila Orgo, had reportedly mentioned financial motivations for selling a child during a previous phone call. It was revealed that she had been in contact with the victim earlier in the day, seemingly under the pretense of sending a gift for the baby.
As the investigation progressed, police tracked the suspects using the victim’s stolen phone and license plate readers. Approximately four hours after the kidnapping, authorities located the suspects’ vehicle on the highway. Miraculously, the baby was found unharmed and swiftly reunited with her mother.
Margie Harina Arila Orgo, 24, and her husband, Chunho Vincent Lie, were subsequently arrested and charged with multiple offenses, including first-degree kidnapping, robbery, burglary, and assault. Both individuals appeared in court and pleaded not guilty, with bail set at $750,000 each. They are currently being held at the Mailing Regional Justice Center.
This disturbing case has raised numerous questions about familial trust and the lengths individuals might go to for financial gain. As the investigation continues, the community remains in shock over the betrayal and violence that unfolded within what should have been the safety of home.
