Liverpool are making the signing of a world-class striker a top priority as talks over Darwin Nunez’s future intensify.

Darwin Nunez has been linked with Napoli and Al-Hilal, the Saudi Pro League’s big-money outfit. However, a move to the Serie A champions is facing a number of hurdles, with Liverpool reportedly wanting around £70m for Nunez.

However, according to many sources, the possibility of Nunez leaving Anfield this summer is very high. The Athletic revealed that Alexander Isak (Newcastle) and Hugo Ekitike (Eintracht Frankfurt) are still on Liverpool’s priority target list. However, any deal needs many favorable factors to progress.

In addition, Liverpool’s new sporting director Richard Hughes is also said to have admired Nicolas Jackson (Chelsea) since his time working at Bournemouth. The Senegalese striker could be a viable option for the “Red Brigade” attack.

The Merseyside club have previously lined up a number of other big names in the summer transfer window, including Viktor Gyokeres, Victor Osimhen and Joao Pedro. But now, six weeks into the window, many of their targets have either moved on or are close to completing their moves.

Joao Pedro has joined Chelsea for £60m, while Osimhen and Gyokeres are close to joining Galatasaray and Arsenal respectively. Ekitike is also on Newcastle’s radar.

Liverpool have so far completed three major summer signings, with a total cost of £185 million, including Florian Wirtz, Jeremie Frimpong and Milos Kerkez. With such a huge investment, the club’s board of directors is forced to consider selling some stars to balance the finances. And Darwin Nunez is at the top of this list.
