Hollywood celebs from Shawn Mendes and Dwayne Johnson to Paul Mescal all have their own take on the Percival, pairing it with everything from a Cartier Tank watch to Ray-Bans and gold chains
From tucked-in to untucked, paired with a white vest or unbuttoned half way, the preppy look is figure hugging but classy, and comes in an endless array of colours
There’s a new trend in town and Hollywood’s most handsome have officially cottoned on. The Percival polo mixes just a little bit of buttoning down with a whole lot of showing off the guns.
Often seen in playful colour variations, here’s a rundown of how the stars have been wearing the knit button-down trend:
1. Tucked-in:
Kit Harrington
Game of Thrones star Kit Harrington tucked a terracotta-coloured version in to his cotton wool trousers and then called it a day. Though he did roll the sleeves for a more casual look and accessorised with a leather strapped timepiece.
Shawn Mendes
Multi-award-winning artist Shawn Mendes has also promoted the clothing line. He matched his rust-coloured basket weave shirt with a pair of casual trousers and topped it off with a cool dog tag.
According to Percival, the Kodo knit was inspired by the famous Japanese Kodo drummers.
2. Untucked:
Andrew Garfield
Add The Amazing Spider-Man star Andrew Garfield to the growing list of celebs rocking the Percival polo. The actor was as carefree as they come in his untucked Green Jacquard top over earth-toned trousers. Fashion tip: wear a white tank top underneath to amp up the Italian Mafia vibes.
Last year, GQ crowned Garfield “King of Good Summer Shirt”.
Ryan Reynolds
Similar to Garfield, Hollywood darling Ryan Reynold’s choice of polo is the Green Jacquard. In an ad for Aviation American Gin, the comedic actor was seen sporting the trendy top, accessorising it with a smartwatch.
And yes, he also wore a white tank top underneath. It’s a whole look
3. With jewellery and chains
Tom Holland
And it seems Garfield isn’t the only Spider-Man who is a fan of this preppy look.
Last year, English actor Tom Holland appeared on Good Morning America to promote his film Uncharted. During his guest appearance, Holland casually rocked a canary yellow Percival. He capped the look with a couple of silver chains.
Michael B. Jordan
The actor-turned-producer was also featured in GQ for wearing a great choice of Percival polo. The Creed 3 director complemented his patterned yellow top with chunky gold chains on the film’s press tour last month.
In contrast to the value of the necklaces he accessorised the look with, the cabin weave polo currently retails at the modest price of US$205, so no one should be surprised if it sells out very soon …
4. Sunglasses:
Chris Evans
The Lightyear star turned heads during the film’s premiere last year. Captain America’s famous biceps were on a tear once again as he sported one of Percival’s most colourful offerings.
He completed the look with matching Barton Perreira shades and a watch.
Paul Mescal
Another celeb riding the Percival wave is Irish-born Paul Mescal, who was spotted in the trendy shirt at last year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed. The award-winning actor buttoned up his fresh vanilla polo under the scorching heat.
The Aftersun lead was in his element, expertly matching the look with a pair of Décor C de Cartier sunglasses and nonchalantly wearing the iconic Cartier Tank watch.
Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson
Rounding out the list is none other than pro wrestler-turned-Hollywood-actor Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. WWD reported that the Black Adam star showed up to his film’s photo call in the brand’s green knitted polo paired with navy blue trousers late last year.
The Rock showed off his guns in his Percival polo and, of course, topped the look off with a pair of classic black Ray-Bans.
