Nikola Jokic reacts to OKC fans chanting free throw merchant & Aaron Gordon game winner

In a thrilling playoff encounter, the Denver Nuggets edged out the Oklahoma City Thunder in Game One, thanks in large part to a game-winning shot by forward Aaron Gordon. The contest, held at the Paycom Center in Oklahoma City, showcased not only the competitive spirit of the teams but also the fervent atmosphere created by the home crowd.

During the game, Denver’s star center Nikola Jokic found himself at the free-throw line, where he was met with chants of “free throw merchant” from the Oklahoma City fans. Following the matchup, Jokic addressed the crowd’s taunts, expressing that he had not heard the chant during the game and found it amusing. He noted his extensive experience playing in front of various crowds, particularly during his time in Serbia, where he often faced small, vocal audiences that could amplify the intensity of the game experience.

“I played even in small gyms where there are literally 30 people, and you can hear everything they’re saying to you,” Jokic reflected. “Sometimes I think that’s the worst because you can see the guy who is telling you.” He emphasized that his experience has equipped him to remain focused, stating, “I don’t get distracted by fans.”

Jokic also praised his teammate Aaron Gordon, referring to him as one of the best players he has ever played with and highlighting Gordon’s crucial contributions in high-pressure situations. “He made a really big shot for us,” Jokic remarked, acknowledging Gordon’s performance that included key free throws and a critical box out in the final moments of the game. He described Gordon as the “soul of the team” and a “glue guy,” suggesting that while Gordon may not always receive the recognition he deserves, his impact on the team is invaluable.

The victory not only sets a positive tone for the Nuggets as they advance in the playoffs but also underscores the importance of teamwork and resilience in high-stakes games. With Jokic and Gordon leading the way, the Nuggets aim to build on this momentum as they continue their playoff journey.
