‘ENTIRELY WRONG’: AOC, NY Republican trade barbs over Trump’s ‘big, beautiful bill’

In a fiery exchange that underscores the deepening divide in American politics, Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (AOC) and New York Republican Congressman Mike Lawler clashed over President Trump’s newly signed “big, beautiful bill,” touted as the largest middle-class tax cut in U.S. history. The signing, which coincided with the Fourth of July, has ignited a storm of debate regarding its implications for American families and the economy.

Lawler, standing proudly at the signing, hailed the bill as a monumental victory for the American people, citing provisions that include no taxes on overtime and tips for low-income workers, as well as a significant increase in the state and local tax deduction cap. He emphasized that this legislation aims to provide real relief to middle-class families while addressing rampant federal spending under the Biden administration.

However, AOC swiftly fired back, accusing Lawler of misleading the public. In a sharp critique, she highlighted that while the bill makes tax breaks for millionaires permanent, it allows crucial benefits for the working class to expire within three years. “It is not normal,” she declared, pointing to the potential rollback of vital support for low-income families, including cuts to SNAP benefits.

The exchange reflects a broader national debate about tax policy and economic security, with both sides claiming to champion the middle class. As the political landscape heats up, Americans are left to navigate the implications of this contentious legislation. With the stakes higher than ever, the battle over the “big, beautiful bill” is far from over, and its impact will be felt across the nation for years to come.
