“Barbie Doll” is more than just a role with Margot Robbie. This is also an endless source of inspiration for her recent fashion style
Currently, Margot Robbie is on a trip to promote a live action movie about Barbie dolls. She is likened to a real-life doll with a carefully selected wardrobe.
What many people don’t realize is that in every public appearance, Margot Robbie is dressing up as a specific version of Barbie. Costumes aren’t just for fun! Besides, Margot Robbie and her stylist Andrew Mukamal also did not ignore Barbie-branded accessories, making fans go crazy when they discovered these expensive details. There’s no denying that Margot Robbie helped make Barbiecore this summer’s big fashion trend.
Take a look at some of Margot Robbie’s most iconic outfits from Harper’s Bazaar on this summer’s journey with live action Barbie .
Characteristic polka dots from Barbie Pink & Fabulous dolls in 2015
On June 25, when appearing in Los Angeles, stylist Andrew Mukamal opened Margot Robbie’s “Barbie wardrobe” with a pink and white polka dot mini dress by Valentino. The color of the mini dress is reminiscent of the Pink & Fabulous doll from 2015.
The original dress is retro with a 1960s mini hem and signature white polka dots. Stylist Andrew Mukamal has given Margot Robbie a more seductive look when creating a cut out in the middle of the chest of the dress. He also prepared for the actress a yellow Valentino Rockstud bag and white Manolo Blahnik pointed-toe heels identical to the original doll.
Recreate the first Barbie doll in 1959
For the purpose of recreating the Barbie wardrobe, Margot Robbie could not ignore the first shape of the Barbie doll when it was released around 1959.
During the film’s promotion in Sydney, Australia, Margot Robbie appeared in a HervΓ© Leger crop top, which looked exactly like the original Barbie’s plaid swimsuit. The dress’s tight mini silhouette reminds of the original swimsuit. She wears white cat-eye glasses and open-toed heels, even tying her hair up to match the original image.
Inspired by Day to Night Barbie in 1985
Margot Robbie appeared in Korea with a neon pink combo inspired by Barbie Day to Night dolls from 1985.
In the daytime event, the actress chose a hot pink Versace dress, coordinated with a polka dot hat and synchronized two-tone shoes. The outfit became even more special when Margot Robbie found an 80s-like phone as an accessory, only the version she used was full of sparkling crystals. The actress also found a Versace Medusa handbag with a matching color scheme to complete the outfit.
For the night event, the actress continued to draw inspiration from Day to Night. With another set from Versace, a sparkling bodysuit and a flowing tulle skirt, Margot Robbie is no different from a plus-sized doll coming out of a toy box. Combine a pair of heels and a bag that looks exactly like the original doll. All of them have a distinctive pink color.
Sparkling with Sparkling Pink Barbie 1964
Also in Korea, Margot Robbie went back to the 1960s and recreated the image of a sparkling pink Barbie doll.
The Moschino outfit has a vintage feel reminiscent of the Sparkling Pink version of 1964. However, if the original used a discreet shirt, stylist Andrew Mukamal made Margot Robbie a more seductive crop top. The light pink color is also replaced by a richer shade of pink. In the end, she chose a pink handbag and a pink bow β two items not included in the original design. This is the most modified outfit compared to the original doll, but still has an impressive effect.
Throughout her trip, Margot Robbie has taken fashionistas around the world from one surprise to another. With her blonde hair and bright smile, she is a real Barbie doll and a living fashion icon for the Barbiecore style.
However, although the movie Barbie is one of the most popular summer blockbusters this year, the film has been banned from showing in Vietnam because it contains images that violate national sovereignty over the sea and islands.
