Erik Ten Hag could reportedly sell one of his Manchester United stars. That’s to free up Rasmus Hojlund’s favourite shirt number.
The Atalanta striker is closing in on a £72million move to Old Trafford. Ten Hag pounced for Hojlund after being left frustrated with United’s lack of clinical finishing last season.
And the Denmark international will be hoping to get amongst the goals when he finally completes his move this week. However, it remains to be seen what shirt number Hojlund gets when he completes his transfer to the Theatre of Dreams.
The No9 shirt is currently occupied by Anthony Martial. And Marcus Rashford has the No10 after penning a new long-term contract.
Even the legendary No7 is gone, with Mason Mount taking the jersey following his £55m move from Chelsea.
However, the Mirror claims Hojlund’s preferred number is 17. He wore the jersey at Atalanta, netting 10 goals during his sole season in Italy.
Brazilian midfielder Fred currently occupies the No17 for United. But his future is in serious doubt amid interest from Galatasaray. And it’s reckoned Fred could now be sold to the Turkish side, freeing up the 17 for Hojlund.
The hitman will become United’s second summer signing after Mount and £47m Inter Milan goalie Andre Onana. Ten Hag could yet move for a new centre-back, while he is eyeing Fiorentina’s Sofyan Amrabat for midfield too.
