Glitzy 1990s Portland mansion that sits on 40-acre estate becomes city’s most expensive home after being listed by its Ritz-Carlton developer owner for $15 million

The most expensive mansion in Portland has been listed privately for $15 million.

Walter Bowen, the developer for downtown Portland’s new Ritz Carlton hotel and residence tower, has listed his 40-acre estate near Forest Park for sale.

Bowen’s English Tudor Revival mansion, referred to as English Oaks Estate, is the most expensive residential property for sale in Portland. The 16,828-square-foot home is located on a 120-acre development shared by three owners.

The property that comes in second in terms of its price is the Tahoma penthouse in the Ritz-Carlton with an asking price of $8,999,000.

The developer bought the Tudor Revival mansion in 1993. The four-level brick house comes with Ipe wood floors, marble-topped fireplaces, seven bedrooms, nine bathrooms, and three powder rooms. Additional features includes a turret, a slate roof, a home theatre, a guest apartment, and a fly-fishing workshop.

The two garages can display six cars, while the parking located off of the motor court can hold 20 more vehicles.

Terry Sprague of LUXE Forbes Global Properties listed the property for sale. He told OregonLive that the craftsmanship, from the light fixtures to the hand-painted murals, emulates the style of a luxury home from one hundred years ago.

‘For someone who is looking for privacy and security and who truly understands a legacy-style estate, this is one of the most beautiful properties of its kind in the country and unique to Portland,’ said Sprague.

Property taxes on the mansion are about $89,000 a year.
