日本西端で着々と進む自衛隊抑止力強化 佐世保「崎辺岸壁」整備 防衛力の南西シフト   陸上自衛隊水陸機動団が拠点を置く佐世保市では、抑止力の強化に向けた取り組みが進行中だ。特に、同団の主力装備である水陸両用車AAV7の輸送効率を高めるための新たな岩壁の整備が注目されている。   最近、佐世保において5両の水陸両用車が大型トレーラーに積み込まれる作業が行われた。AAV7は海と陸の両方を進む能力を持ち、他国の侵略に対する奪還作戦に投入されるため、迅速な展開が求められる。しかし、現在の相浦駐屯地には輸送艦に積むための専用の岩壁が存在せず、輸送艦の待機場所までの陸上輸送が必要とされている。このため、訓練や有事の際にも輸送作業が発生し、時間と隊員に負担をかけているのが現状だ。   水陸両用車を運ぶための大型トレーラーは法律の基準により、夜間の午後9時から午前6時までの通行に制限されている。そのため、夜間に市街地を経由して海上自衛隊の倉島岩壁まで輸送する必要がある。このような輸送の負担を軽減するため、佐世保市内の先兵エリアでは新たな岩壁の工事が進められている。   この新しい岩壁が完成すれば、水陸両用車は直接海上自衛隊の輸送艦に搭載することが可能となり、運用の効率性と迅速性が大幅に向上する。これにより、佐世保の自衛隊はより強力な抑止力を持つことが期待されている。今後5年以内に完成予定のこの施設は、陸上自衛隊と海上自衛隊の統合運用拠点としての役割を果たし、佐世保基地の機能と意義を大きく変える可能性がある。   防衛力の南西シフトが進む中、これらの整備は単なる物理的なインフラの改善にとどまらず、地域の安全保障環境における重要な変化をもたらすものと考えられている。自衛隊の抑止力が向上することで、地元住民や関係者はより安心して生活できる環境が整うことが期待されている。
