Using her influence for positive change, Taylor Swift is motivating her fans to take action. The talented artist took to her Instagram Stories on Friday to share an important message about voting. Alongside a selfie proudly displaying her “I voted today” sticker, she encouraged her followers in Nashville to participate in early voting for city officials and statewide seats. Swift emphasized the significance of choosing representatives who will serve the community for the next four years. She urged her fans to make their voices heard by voting and shared a link for additional information on local early voting.

Recent developments in Tennessee politics have garnered attention, particularly with the passing of a law in March that imposed restrictions on adult cabaret performances. The legislation included a provision that prohibited “male or female impersonators” from performing in venues accessible to non-adults. However, the ban on drag performances was later declared unconstitutional in June.

Taylor Swift, known for being vocal about her political beliefs, endorsed Democratic candidate Phil Bredesen for Senate in Tennessee in 2018. In 2019, she shared a letter she wrote to Republican Senator Lamar Alexander, urging him to support the Equality Act, which aims to combat discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity. Despite the bill already passing in the House, many Republicans expressed opposition to it.

Swift urged her fans to take action by writing to their own state senators, emphasizing the importance of achieving equal treatment for all citizens. She highlighted the fear and vulnerability faced by LGBTQ individuals who lack legal protection against homophobic or transphobic employers and landlords. Swift called for national laws that truly promote equality among all citizens.

In 2020, Swift used her platform to encourage people to vote as a means to combat police brutality and racism. She shared a thread of tweets urging her followers to participate in the electoral process for the sake of social justice.

“Racial injustice has been ingrained deeply into local and state governments, and changes MUST be made there,” she wrote in her first tweet. “In order for policies to change, we need to elect people who will fight against police brutality and racism of any kind. #BlackLivesMatter.”

“This article written by @BarackObama is a fascinating read about changing policy at the state and local levels,” she continued in her next tweet, which included a link to former President Barack Obama’s article on Medium titled “How to Make this Moment the Turning Point for Real Change.”

In the last tweet of her thread, Swift urged people to fight for access to mail-in voting for the 2020 election since concerns about COVID-19 hindered some from going to the polls.

“We need to fight for mail-in voting for the 2020 election. No one should have to choose between their health and having their voice heard,” she wrote.
Swift is currently on the North American leg of Eras Tour, with her next shows on Friday and Saturday in Denver.
