It’s been a difficult eight months for Angelina Jolie, ever since she announced her split from husband Brad Pitt in September, and now more than ever, the 41-year-old says she’s missing her late mom, Marcheline Bertrand.
In an interview with ELLE France this month, the newly single mom of six spoke about how difficult it’s been navigating life without her beloved mother, who passed away in 2007 from cancer at the age of 56.
‘I would give anything for her to be with me at this time. I’ve needed her,’ she confessed.
‘I talk to her often in my mind and try to think what she might say and how she might guide me.’
The stunning star also said she’s sad her mother missed out on being a grandmother to her children with Brad, 53 – Maddox, 15, Pax, 13, Zahara, 12, Shiloh, 11, and twins Knox and Vivienne, eight.
‘She would have thrived as a grandmother,’ she said.
‘I know how much she would have contributed to their lives and I am sad they will miss out on that.’
Speaking of motherhood, Angelina said it’s been the ‘greatest’ thing she has ever done.
‘It is the greatest gift and responsibility,’ she revealed.
‘It means doing everything that you can to live by your values and try to be an example to your children.’
And while her mother may no longer be with her, she says she definitely influenced what sort of a parent the Maleficent star is.
‘I try to lead by example, being conscious of others and being responsible. And to help them have a broader view of the world,’ she added.
‘But really the only way I know to raise them is to really listen. It’s perhaps the most important thing any parent can do. They are resilient children but they are children, and as much as they need help to understand the hard truths in life they also need what we all need – protection and love.’
