Using Magic Johnson’s 4 SG Years, Gilbert Arenas Anoints LeBron James As The Greatest Point Guard Of All Time

Stephen Curry really did open up a whole new can of worms. The NBA community had become accustomed to talking about the GOAT debate more than any other topic for years. However, as soon as Curry claimed that he was the greatest point guard of all time, things changed in a hurry. Suddenly everyone, including Michael Jordan, was arguing between Magic Johnson and Steph Curry, fighting tooth and nail to prove they had the right pick. Amidst all this, Gilbert Arenas recently came out and picked neither. Instead, of explaining his choice rather convincingly, he chose to put the crown on LeBron James.

As mentioned previously, like countless fans, Jordan also revealed his opinion on the debate. As per the words of Stephen A. Smith, ‘MJ’ texted him at 5:54 AM, announcing Johnson as his pick between him and Curry in the conversation for the greatest point guard of all time. Take a look at what the ESPN analyst had to say on the matter in the tweet by ESPN below.

Amidst all this, Gilbert Arenas has come out with a completely unique, yet enticing answer.

Gilbert Arenas explains why LeBron James should be considered as the greatest point guard of all time

Magic Johnson spent 13 years in the NBA, revolutionizing what a wing-sized player can do in the NBA. However, while many believe that he started out as the point guard of the Lakers in his rookie season, it took a few seasons before he was finally handed the reigns. Referencing those 4 seasons (1979-1983) he spent as a shooting guard, here is what Gilbert Arenas said about LeBron James, as seen in the tweet by Coach James.

“Magic (Johnson) was a small forward (or), shooting guard coming into the NBA.  His first four years, he was the shooting guard. Norm Nixon was the point guard. When they moved Norm, they gave the ball to Magic. Because it was better played by the guy at that size. So, he was your small forward, who guarded the small forward, but had the ball in his hand. And because he did what he did, like Joker (Nikola Jokic) does, they called him the point guard. That’s where ‘point forward’ comes in from. So, if we want to use that, I always did this to people just to f**k with him… If you’re going to use Magic as the best point, I’m going to use LeBron. Now LeBron is the number one point guard.

He led his team in assists every f**king year! He has to be the best point guard of all time. If you’re going to play with Magic, LeBron was the 2.0 of of Magic Johnson. Coming into the NBA, he was *Magic Johnson* with Jordan-like jumping ability.

Admittedly, it’s hard to disagree with Gilbert Arenas’s argument. However, as a result of this conversation, will LeBron James now be considered as a contender for the greatest point guard of all time? Given his already high stake in the GOAT conversation, while he may deserve it, the man may not get it.

Tiger Woods believes LeBron is a mix of Magic and Jordan too

Tiger Woods may be a legend in the world of golf, but his interests extend to basketball too. A very good friend of Jordan himself, he once explained how LeBron James is a good blend of him and Magic Johnson. Here is what he said.

“They’re both great in different ways. If you look at MJ, he was a prolific scorer and played defense like no other, always first-team all-defense, but LeBron is different. He’s like a hybrid of MJ and Magic Johnson, which is so different because he’s bringing the ball up a lot. MJ never really did that. I mean, he had Pippen as a point forward a lot of times, and you would think that’s kind of LeBron-ish, but they’re very different in how they help both teams.”

Admittedly, much like Gilbert Arenas’s verdict, Tiger Woods’s statement makes too much sense to argue against.

While fans no longer have the pleasure of seeing Michael Jordan and Magic Johnson, it appears that the privilege of watching the ideal blend of them still exists.
