Angelina Jolie may be a mother of six, but it’s her kids who teach her sometimes.
In an interview with Harper’s Bazaar, the actress, 44, said she learns from her children: Maddox, 18, Pax, 15, Zahara, 14, Shiloh, 13, and 11-year-old twins Vivienne and Knox.
“They have been through a lot. I learn from their strength,” she said. “As parents, we encourage our kids to embrace all that they are and all that they know in their hearts to be right, and they look back at us and want the same for us.”
Jolie praised her children for helping her find herself.
“My children know my true self, and they have helped me to find it again and to embrace it,” she said.
She shared how she raises her kids in a world of social media.
“Knowing our true self is a very important question for all of us. Especially a child,” she said. “I think kids need to be able to say, ‘Here’s who I am and what I believe.’ We can’t prevent them from experiencing pain, heartache, physical pain and loss. But we can teach them to live better through it.”
Jolie shares her children with ex Brad Pitt. She filed for divorce from him in 2016 after two years of marriage.
In October, Jolie spoke with People about how she grappled with rediscovering Maleficent for the follow-up to the 2014 film.
“It was a tough time” slipping back into the role for “Maleficent: Mistress of Evil,” the Oscar-winning actress admitted to the magazine.
“I’d been coming off a few years of difficulty, and I was not feeling very strong,” she said. “In fact, I was feeling pretty broken. It took me a moment to feel the strength of (Maleficent) again.”
