Erling Haaland is relentless in his pursuit of scoring goals – and the Manchester City striker takes an unusual approach to sleep in order to aid his performance
Erling Haaland has revealed that he tapes his mouth shut while sleeping because he believes it aids his performance.
The Manchester City striker has taken the Premier League by storm since arriving from Borussia Dortmund last summer. He has plundered 55 goals in 58 games in all competitions so far, helping Pep Guardiola’s side win an historic Treble of Premier League, Champions League and FA Cup in his debut campaign.
He was named as PFA Player of the Year earlier this week and City will hope that he can remain unstoppable in front of goal during the 2023/24 season. The 23-year-old striker is laser-focused on doing just that, with his routine away from the pitch geared towards performance.
Appearing on Logan Paul’s YouTube show Impaulsive, he spoke about his complete commitment to getting the most out of himself. That means wearing blue glasses for three hours before bed to block out blue light and, remarkably, putting tape over his mouth to make sure he breathes through his nose while asleep.

Logan Paul then spoke about using tape on his nose while sleeping in order to open up his airways and alleviate symptoms of a deviated septum. Haaland replied: “You should try and tape your mouth then! Why not! [Or] when you train? It would be a bit difficult. I have it, I sleep with it.”
Haaland also spoke about another one of his daily habits: using the sauna. He said: “I have it at my home so I try and do it not every single day but almost every day. Sauna, steam room.”
The Norwegian eats 6,000 calories per day to keep up his training regime and, in the documentary ‘Haaland: The Big Decision’, he discusses his love for eating liver and heart.
“You don’t eat this, but I am concerned with taking care of my body,” he said. “I think eating quality food that is as local as possible is the most important.”
Haaland only drinks water through a complicated filter system. He said: “The first thing I do in the morning is to get some sunlight in my eyes. It is good for circadian rhythm. I have also started to filtrate my water a bit. I think it can have great benefits for my body.”
