The Sky Whale

At a recent exhibition on future transportation held at Kuwait’s Sheikh Abdullah Al Salem Cultural Center, designer Oscar Vinals’ AWWA Sky Whale aircraft was displayed to guests.

The Sky Whale concept focuses on futuristic “green” aircraft designs for twenty-first century conventional aircraft, which can profit from more environmentally friendly fuel technology solutions and delivers higher performance.

Besides, “Sky Whale” can be equipped with advanced technologies such as alloys, ceramic or fiber composites, carbon nanotubes, fiber optic cables, self-healing skin, hybrid electric motors, wings operating, twin fuselages, virtual reality windows with adaptive dimming, and the ability to generate electricity with microscopic solar cells arranged in a hexagonal pattern on the structure’s ceiling.

Sky Wale has a superior engine and a specially designed wing

The aircraft’s active wings will be longer than conventional wings currently in use, with an eccentric turbine within the wing close to the fuselage helping to direct laminar airflow and the turbines while creating generating electrical power for four large fuel-electric hybrid engines. The hybrid turbo-electric propulsion system itself is also improved thanks to expected advances in battery technology.

When the engine core is off, the aircraft’s engines can use energy to operate the jet engine along with gasoline to power the core.

The Sky Whale’s engines can rotate up to 45 degrees vertically to help with takeoff and landing movements. This greatly cuts the distance to carry out these operations and serves as a method of support during unusual air conditions.

Fly-by-wire systems and avionics are used to control everything, with the help of active sensors spread across the surface of the aircraft.

To provide greater safety, the aircraft’s wings are located and built (with integrated engines) apart from the fuselage. If an emergency landing occurs that could cause loss of life, this separation will cause less damage to passengers.

The most luxurious plane in the sky

With a length of 76.8 meters, along with a maximum speed of 997 km/h, Sky Wale is comparable to today’s best long-range aircraft such as the Airbus A380-800 and Boeing 747. However, it will be large significantly larger and can accommodate up to 755 passengers.

When it comes to luxury, the Sky Whale is essentially built as a flying hotel, similar to a Sky Cruise, with everything from a gym to a spa, not to mention the breathtaking views that first-class guests aboard This three-story hotel building can be enjoyed from the rooftop windows.

All the amenities of a conventional airliner will be provided to passengers on board, in addition to various high-tech features.

On a three-decker plane, passengers will be divided into “tourist class”, “business class” and “first class”.

The top category will include rooftop windows with sky views that can be dimmed more or less to adjust the amount of light in the cabin.

According to experts, Sky Whale’s design is highly feasible. With the advancement of technology, one day soon in the future, a Sky Whale will be built and tested with passengers.
