“Alcaraz is amazing. I mean, look, he’s still young and everything he’s achieved is great, not just on clay or hard courts. Winning the Wimbledon championship against Novak Djokovic in the final, that was no joke. I was very impressed with the performance on Center Court that day,” said Federer.
“Of course, with Rafa, Novak, me and Murray, we all look forward to the generations that will continue the legacy of their predecessors. And I think Carlos, he’s doing the best he can so far. It will definitely take time, like here in Shanghai, but Alcaraz is doing very well.”
The world number 2 tennis player is expected to continue competing in the ATP 500 tournament taking place in Basel, Switzerland. Alcaraz can earn 500 points and tie the score with Djokovic if he wins the championship. After that, both players entered competition at the last ATP Masters 1000 tennis event of the year – Rolex Paris Masters taking place on October 30.
If Alcaraz reaches the final of the tournament in France, the Spanish tennis player will surpass Djokovic to take over the world number 1 position before the ATP World Tour Finals 2023.
