FOOTBALL fans were left in hysterics at Pep Guardiola after Manuel Akanji’s error during the Champions League final.
Rodri’s second-half goal handed Manchester City their first European crown and completed a sensational Treble.
Video: Pep Guardiola fully thought that Lautaro Martinez would score… 🫣
But it was a hard-fought game for the Premier League and FA Cup winners who were pushed all the way by heavy underdogs Inter. And with the scores level shortly before the hour mark, a calamitous mix-up at the back almost gifted the Italian side the lead.
Akanji left a ball for his keeper Ederson, but failed to realise the Brazilian was nowhere near it. Inter striker Lautaro Martinez latched onto the loose pass and attempted to beat Ederson, but was thwarted by the Man City shot-stopper.
Following the incident, BT Sport showed a replay of Guardiola collapsing to his knees when Martinez went through. And the dramatic reaction from the Spanish coach received a big reaction on social media.
One person said: “He is going to lose even more hair over this.”
Another added: “New meme 😋.”
While a third replied: “Such a drama queen.”
Rodri struck in the 68th minute to clinch Man City’s first Champions League trophy. And it ends Guardiola’s 12-year wait for a third European triumph as a manager.
He also won the competition as a player with Barcelona in 1992. And it means Man City become the first English team to win the Treble since rivals Manchester United achieved the feat in 1999.
