Former driver Perry McCarthy believes Hamilton has had more support than others on his journey up the motorsport ladder.
Former F1 driver Perry McCarthy believes Lewis Hamilton should “stop moaning” over a lack of support.
The Mercedes driver has built his way up from humble beginnings with his father Anthony alongside all the way – his desire to work numerous jobs to help fund Hamilton’s early career well-documented.
A conversation with former McLaren boss Ron Dennis led to support up the motorsport ladder before his F1 chance finally came in 2007.
The seven-time champion has since begun a quest to improve diversity, inclusion and opportunity with the paddock and beyond by using his superstar platform, with Mission 44 and Mercedes’ Accelerate 25 and Ignite initiative helping force the issue.
But whilst Hamilton has suggested a lack of support during his push off-track, McCarthy – who failed to qualify as part of the doomed Andrea Moda team in 1992 but held numerous test driver roles – told EssentiallySports: “Lewis shouldn’t moan so much about a lack of support, because he actually got something that a lot of people had dreamed of. Like that Ron Dennis, the head of McLaren for example, was there and believed in you.
“What Lewis did next was pay back the belief every time, because Lewis was and is brilliant. So Lewis had the opportunity and he seized that opportunity every time with everything he had. But Lewis shouldn’t talk too much about a lack of chances
