Following Tiger Woods’ highly publicized separation from Nike earlier in January, Golf reports that TaylorMade’s new patent application appears to indicate that an apparel deal between the business and Woods is approaching.
TaylorMade Lifestyle Ventures LLC filed several trademark applications for the Sunday Red brand with the United States Patent and Trademark Office.
Woods already uses TaylorMade clubs, so this would be a natural extension of his relationship with the brand. Following Woods’ departure from Nike, rumors grew that he would join with TaylorMade, particularly after the golf outfitter retweeted an episode of Woods’ appearance on the TaylorMade-affiliated Fore Play podcast with the phrase “Stay tuned.”
According to Golf, TaylorMade filed four applications for Tiger-related trademarks. One depicts a leaping Woods, another features a leaping Woods with the letters SDR, and two more spell out Sunday Red.
The applications are marked as live in the database, indicating that they are awaiting review and, eventually, approval. Woods has been identified with red since his professional debut in the mid-1990s. Woods has previously stated that his love of red sprang from his mother, Kutilda, who taught him that the color was a symbol of power. Woods, who has won 15 major championships, has only missed three final rounds of golf when wearing red.
