Gal Gadot has acknowledged that her rendition of “Imagine” during the early stages of the COVID-19 pandemic was not well received. The actress, known for her role as Wonder Woman, reflected on the star-studded collaboration in March 2020, where she joined forces with several A-list celebrities in an attempt to boost morale and spread positivity during widespread lockdowns around the world.
However, the project faced criticism for its poor timing and disconnect from reality.
Gadot admitted that the video’s release timing was a significant issue and confessed that the criticism she received, along with the other celebrities involved, was warranted.
In an interview with InStyle Magazine, the 36-year-old Israeli actress shared that she had “pure intentions” but recognized that the video came across as distasteful. She acknowledged, “It wasn’t the right timing, and it wasn’t the right thing. It was in poor taste.” Gadot emphasized that although her intentions were good, she missed the mark.
This recent statement marks a shift from Gadot’s previous response to the backlash. During an interview with Vanity Fair in October 2020, she remained somewhat unapologetic, explaining that she had attempted to do a “good deed.”
The ill-fated “Imagine” project serves as a reminder that even well-intentioned gestures can fall flat if they fail to resonate with their intended audience. Gadot’s openness in admitting her misstep demonstrates personal growth and a willingness to learn from her past mistakes.
