Man Utd’s XI to bring back the glory days with Moises Caicedo and three other signings

Manchester United are hoping to sign Moises Caicedo from Brighton in this summer’s transfer window.

Having grown fed up of dealing with Chelsea over Mason Mount, Manchester United have now set their sights on signing Moises Caicedo from Brighton. The Ecuador international won’t be cheap for Erik ten Hag to sign this summer. But the Red Devils still feel they have a chance of securing the midfielder, with a potential swap deal on the cards.

Manchester United have spent the past month or so aggressively pursuing a deal for Mount. However, Chelsea aren’t willing to let the 24-year-old go without a fight and want £65million to let the player go.

In the eyes of United, that’s far too steep for a star who has just 12 months left on his contract. And that’s why they’re now exploring a potential deal for Caicedo, who has been outstanding for Brighton ever since his move in 2021.

Express Sport now looks at how United may line up with Caicedo in their ranks – as well as other targets such as Andre Onana, Jeremie Frimpong and Harry Kane.

However, the Spain international currently looks set to leave as a free agent when his contract expires on Friday. Behind the scenes, United are looking to land Andre Onana from Inter Milan.

The Cameroon international previously played under Ten Hag at Ajax, with the pair winning three league titles together. Inter want to keep Onana but the goalkeeper is believed to be keen on a move to United, which works in the Red Devils’ favour.

Man Utd will have to spend big to seal Moises Caicedo transfer deal

Defence: Frimpong, Martinez, Varane, Shaw

United are well-stocked at right-back due to having Diogo Dalot and Aaron Wan-Bissaka at their disposal. Should their budget allow it, however, they’d love to bolster their options in that area. And Jeremie Frimpong is one player who has been strongly linked, with United previously eyeing the defender back in January.

Frimpong could go on the right of their defence, with Luke Shaw on the left. And Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane would then make up United’s centre-back axis, with the duo Ten Hag’s first-choice pairing.

Midfield: Caicedo, Casemiro, Fernandes

Caicedo is a different kind of player to Mount. The Brighton star is more defensively-minded, which means he could slot in alongside Casemiro in a flat midfield pairing.

Caicedo would likely take Christian Eriksen’s place in the team, despite the creativity the Denmark international offers. Then, playing ahead of the Ecuador star and Casemiro, would go Bruno Fernandes.

Fernandes could be set to become United captain this summer in the event of Harry Maguire being shown the door, something that’s certainly a possibility.

Forwards: Antony, Kane, Rashford

United haven’t entirely given up hope of signing Harry Kane. And if they manage to raise an extra £100m through player sales, they could look to break Tottenham’s resolve.

Kane is open to moving to United but, right now, appears reluctant to push for a move away from north London. Should the 29-year-old join, then Antony and Marcus Rashford would potentially be deployed alongside him in attack.

That would be a formidable front three, one that could even bring the glory days back to Old Trafford.
