The Emirati company Desert Power Decisions/Highland Systems has unveiled its latest innovation at the NAVDEX naval defense exhibition. This innovation consists of two underwater submersible crafts known as the “Kronos,” which were launched during IDEX 2023. The Kronos crafts are designed for dynamic dives at high speeds and can perform various tasks such as launching mini torpedoes or unmanned underwater vehicles (UUVs).
The Kronos measures 9.03 meters in length, 7.43 meters in width, and 2.09 meters in height. It can carry up to 11 people, including the pilot. It features 360° night-vision cameras, a sonar system, six lightweight torpedoes, and a lock-out chamber that allows divers to leave the craft without flooding the cabin. The Kronos is capable of achieving speeds of up to 43 knots on the surface and a submerged top speed of 27 knots, which enables it to operate at a depth of 100 meters, with a 250-meter depth limit.
This advanced submersible has been developed by Highland Systems, a company specializing in the research and development of state-of-the-art technology for various applications. It offers exceptional performance and significantly reduces energy consumption, increasing top speed and providing high survivability. The Kronos represents an innovative solution for underwater operations, whether for military, research, rescue, or security purposes.
