Daylyt Drops a Bomb: Did Eminem Cause Mumble Rap?

Battle rap veteran Daylyt shared his thoughts on Eminem’s impact on the current rap scene.

Analysing one of the rap battles for the Last Second Sea channel, Daylyt suggests that Eminem’s high level of lyrical ability might have unintentionally influenced the rise of mumble rap. He theorises that some rappers, feeling they couldn’t reach Eminem’s technical skills, opted for a different approach.

Eminem is the reason mumble rap exists. Eminem rapped at a level so high that everybody just gave up. It’s like, “You know what? We’ll never get there. Let’s just go backwards”. And that’s what happens to battle rap. This is the highest level. Why niggas don’t try to be better than this. They like, “You know what? I’mma just go that way”. That’s crazy.

It’s important to note that Daylyt is not exactly pointing the finger at Eminem for creating mumble rap. Instead, he is suggesting some rappers might have taken the “easy way out” when faced with Eminem’s technical mastery.

Basically, picture a bunch of rappers staring at Mount Eminem and deciding to chill on the foothills of mediocrity instead. But ultimately, the responsibility lies with those who choose not to push their lyrical boundaries.

Whether Daylyt’s theory holds water is up for debate. But one thing’s for sure, it’s a fresh take on the evolution of rap.

So what do you think? Did Eminem set the bar so high it birthed mumble rap, or is Daylyt reaching a little too far? Let us know in the comments!
