Inside Derek Jeter’s lavish lakefront castle 50 miles from Manhattan is set to go under the hammer for $6.5 million – after first being listed for $14.75 million in 2018

A New York castle with ties to Yankee baseball legend Derek Jeter is set to hit the auction block in December, with a minimum buying price of $6.5 million after it failed to garner interest with the original $14.75 million listing.

Tiedemann Castle, a lakefront mansion located only 50 miles from Manhattan in Orange County, is slated to be auctioned on December 15 after being on and off the market since June 2018.

Jeter has a long history with the estate, as his grandfather was the adopted son of the Tiedemann family, who formerly owned it.

He spent his boyhood summers at the castle, according to a 2011 book called The Captain: The Journey of Derek Jeter by Ian O’Connor.

The property sits beside Greenwood Lake and is fashioned in the style of a European castle, complete with a tower and rooftop battlements along with a stone wall.

Paramount Realty USA, the company in charge of auctioning the house, said the property includes four acres of land, a 9,000-square-foot main house, a lakefront guesthouse, and a pool house.

The main house is enormous and holds 24 rooms, including a billiards room, multiple entertainment rooms, and a bar.

There are also five kitchens across the property which is called ‘the ultimate full-time residence or the ideal weekend/summer getaway’ on the listing.

The listing for the property claims the house underwent a ‘meticulous 15-year extensive renovation with unparalleled attention to detail, taking it beyond its original grandeur.’

The property comes with waterfalls that flow into a private lagoon, a boat house and boat dock, and even a baseball diamond-shaped infinity pool.

It comes with nearly 700 feet of shoreline and ‘stunning’ waterfront views along with wooded outdoor areas to explore.

A limited liability company tied to Jeter bought the property in the early 2000s, records show, though the price it was bought for remains unclear.

Jeter retired from a historic baseball career in 2014 and immediately launched various businesses including joining an investment group that bought the Miami Marlins in 2017 for $1.7 billion.

He served as the team’s chief executive before selling his stake in the team and leaving his role.

While the current owner of the property remains unclear, the seller has decided to auction the house as it may bring ‘some finality to the process,’ according to Paramount Realty owner Misha Haghani.

The mansion is unique in the Greenwood Lake area where the median price of a property listing is approximately $399,000.

The auction will be conducted in partnership with the property’s listing agent, Diane Mitchell of Wright Bros. Real Estate in Nyack.

‘This is a truly special property in so many ways, which is why we feel that it is so appropriate to sell by private auction – let the buyer name their price,’ said Mitchell in a statement.
