Gal Gadot spoke for the first time about her decision to play Queen Cleopatra

The Israeli beauty said she had long admired Cleopatra and wanted to transform into the Egyptian queen on the big screen.

Last October, Gal Gadot caused a stir when she confirmed that she would play Cleopatra in a historical film about the life of the Egyptian queen. Miss Israel wrote on her personal page: “I am excited about each new film project and love the thrill of bringing new stories to life. Cleopatra is a character I have wanted to play for a long time.”

This information caused a stir among the public. Many people believe that the role of Cleopatra should be given to a black actress because the character is of African descent. A part of the audience even strongly condemned this decision, saying that this is a “whitewashing” act that has been a problem in Hollywood for many years. In the past, many white actresses such as Claudette Colbert, Vivien Leigh or Elizabeth Taylor once transformed into Queen Cleopatra.

The Israeli beauty spoke out for the first time about the incident through an interview with BBC Arabic. “Cleopatra is Macedonian, that’s the truth if you want to know. We’ve been looking for a Macedonian actress who fits the image of Cleopatra. But she hasn’t appeared yet and I’ve always been in love with the Egyptian queen.” ”, Gal Gadot said. She added: “I have many friends around the world. They belong to many races and follow many different religions. But in the end, it’s all about people to me.” Miss Israel 2004 expressed her desire to honor the historical legacy of the queen she greatly admired through her work. “But you know, Anyone can make this movie. I have passion and I will do my own project,” the actress concluded.

It is known that the film was originally Gal Gadot’s idea, built in an epic direction. The 35-year-old beauty invited Patty Jenkins, who worked with her on two Wonder Woman movies, to direct. According to Deadline, Paramount defeated competitors such as Apple, Universal, Warner Bros. and Netflix to win the right to release the work.
