Zack Snyder promised a spectacle with his Rebel Moon franchise following his collaboration with Netflix. After the critical bomb in the first part of Rebel Moon, the sequel followed the same fate. Rebel Moon – Part Two: The Scargiver was able to claim only a 52% Rotten Tomatoes score, which was mediocre for a movie of that magnitude.
The franchise has lost the gravity of the essence to make it huge with more installments. The second part could not get close to the first installment, Rebel Moon – Part One: A Child of Fire. Also, failed to beat Gal Gadot’s critical bomb Heart of Stone in regards to the viewership numbers.
Zack Snyder’s Rebel Moon 2 Statistics Are Not Promising
Zack Snyder’s Rebel Moon movies were ambitious, but somewhere down the line, the movie series drifted away into the void of space, far from the amusement of the audience and critics. Rebel Moon – Part Two: The Scargiver debuted with 44.20 million hours watched and 21.40 million views in its first three days of the release of the movie (per Whats On Netflix).
The numbers were considerably low when compared to the first part of the movie. For context, Part One of the franchise debuted with 54.10 million viewing hours worldwide and 23.9 million views. Interestingly, the first movie resurfaced on the Netflix chart claiming an additional 12.5 million hours and 5.5 million views.
Notably, both the movies have failed to beat Gal Gadot’s 2023 action thriller Heart of Stone which was a critical disaster despite being another ambitious Netflix project. Yet, the movie was featured in Netflix’s top 10 charts for the week of August 7 to August 13 with 33.1M views (per Deadline). Considering the statistics, Rebel Moon 2 was not a disaster but the lower numbers may hinder the potential extension of the Rebel Moon universe.
Fans Responded To The Performance of Rebel Moon 2
Rebel Moon 2 was still the most watched title of the first week of its release. “Zack Snyder’s Rebel Moon – Part Two: The Scargiver debuted at #1 on the English Films List with 21.4M views, making it the most-watched title of the week,” an official statement said. Also, the movie reached the Top 10 spot in 92 countries.
“The sci-fi epic reached the Top 10 in 92 countries and pulled its prequel, Rebel Moon – Part One: A Child of Fire, back onto the list at #5 (5.5M views). Snyder has now had three consecutive #1 films on Netflix: Rebel Moon Parts One & Two and Army of the Dead,” the statement added.
Despite the negative reviews, the movie has been a subject of discussion. Taking to X (formerly Twitter), fans responded to the statistics of the movie.
Regardless, the Sofia Boutella-starrer movie series remained one of the important franchises for Netflix as both movies have created immense buzz engaging fans for the movies. Although there are no official words on the extension of the potential Rebel Moon universe, Snyder might want to give another shot to his ambitious project.
