Wonder Woman 3’s Cancellation Gets Candid Response From Lynda Carter

The first actress to play Wonder Woman in live-action, Lynda Carter, has shared her honest thoughts on the cancellation of Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman 3.

Original Wonder Woman actress Lynda Carter has commented on the cancellation of Wonder Woman 3. Carter gave life to Diana Prince in the Wonder Woman/The New Adventures of Wonder Woman series, which aired for three seasons. The actress then returned as the Amazon Asteria in DC’s Wonder Woman 1984. Following Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman 3 getting canceled, Carter has revealed what she thinks of the situation.

Speaking to Yahoo Entertainment, Lynda Carter got candid about Wonder Woman 3 not moving forward at DC. According to the actress, Wonder Woman 3 might only happen if “there’s enough pressure from fans.” Carter then went on to explain why she thinks Diana is a unique character, commenting that her “whole thing is about peaceful solutions.” Due to the character’s special qualities, Carter is confused about Gadot’s Wonder Woman not continuing as part of DC’s slate of upcoming projects. Check out the full quote below:

“I don’t think they want to do it unless there’s enough pressure from fans. I just don’t think they have the mind to do it. And I don’t understand that, because it seems to me that Wonder Woman is different from other characters. She’s not just a superhero. Her whole thing is about peaceful solutions. She’s not aggressive to be aggressive. It’s a different story. It’s about inner strength, outer strength. I don’t know why they tabled it, because it’s a great franchise.”

Despite Carter’s comments about Wonder Woman’s importance and values being accurate, Gadot’s Wonder Woman 3 happening right now would just not make sense. According to reports, the entire cast of the DCEU’s Justice League will be replaced with new actors for James Gunn’s DC Universe. As such, DC has different plans for how to move forward with the Wonder Woman franchise.

A huge part of those plans lies in an announced DCU series. During the reveal of the first projects in the DCU’s Chapter One, Gunn announced the Paradise Lost Wonder Woman prequel series. While the show will not focus on Gadot’s Wonder Woman or another actress as Diana Prince — as it is set to take place hundreds of years before she was born — the project will help establish the Wonder Woman corner of the DCU, setting up the Amazons, Themyscira, and their mythology.

Wonder Woman still has to have her debut project in the DCU revealed. However, Gunn previously teased that the hero would show up during the first three years of the new universe. As such, it is likely that Wonder Woman has a movie yet to be announced as part of the back half of the DCU’s Chapter One. However, when that happens, it will most likely be with a new actress in Gadot’s place, as has happened with Henry Cavill getting replaced as Superman with David Corenswet and Ben Affleck being out as Batman. Wonder Woman 3 happening is improbable.
