The Ford F-650/F-750 Super Duty are medium duty commercial trucks manufactured by the Ford Motor Company. They were introduced by Ford in 2000, replacing the previous generation F-600, F-700, F-800 trucks introduced in 1980. They are primarily intended for use as utility trucks for moving, heavy hauling, construction use and are intended to appeal to businesses and municipalities.[1] They are primarily Class 6/7 trucks, but the 2011 F-750 model has an expanded Class 8 rating with a GVWR of 37,000 lbs due to frame and chassis upgrades. The F-650 and F-750 are manufactured in Mexico in a joint venture with Navistar International and Blue Diamond Truck Company LLC. The Ford trucks are built in a Navistar plant with an international truck chassis, using Ford cabs and non-international engines (Caterpillar and Cummins diesels, Ford gasoline). With Ford discontinuing the Econoline for 2013, Ford announced that F-650 production will move from Mexico to the Avon Lake, Ohio assembly plant that previously built the Econ oline.
DesignThe F-650 was preceded by the previous generation F-600, F-700, F-800 trucks introduced in 1980. The trucks were larger than the heavy-duty pickups. Thecurrent model (2008-2011) retains the dashboard and introduces the interior with the current cab style in 1998 rather than the revised interior of the 2008 F250-550 Super Duty line, both Ford (facelift 1973 cab 1967 and 1980 cab 1987 and 1991 face lift) and GM (facelift 1995, cab 1988) have a history of doing this. Ford has announced that the 2012 model year will receive an updated interior to bring it in line with the current Super Duty trucks.Aftermarket has made the F-650/F-750 into premium trucks similar to the international CXT by offering various conversions such as four-wheel drive.
PowertrainStarting with the 2010 model year, there is only one diesel engine option due to Caterpillar’s absence in the off-road (OTR) market. The 6.7 L Cummins B Series (ISB) I-6 diesel engine comes in eight standard and optional grades, and two trade grades. Ford has announced that the 2012 model year will have gasoline and compressed natural gas available for the F-650. The 6.8 L Ford Modular V-10 engine produces 362 hp and 457 ft·lbs of torque and will be mated to the new Ford 6R140 6-speed automatic transmission.
