As the 2024 football season gets rolling, let us remember just how dangerous this sport can be, especially for those playing it in their youth.
This month, two teen football players – one of them 13 years old, the other 16 – died within just days of each other.
On Saturday, Caden Tellier, a high school football quarterback in Alabama, died after suffering a severe brain injury during a game. He had to be airlifted to a hospital on Friday evening. He succumbed to his injury on Saturday, tragically.
“There are no words to describe how we feel as a school community and family,” Dr. Bryan Oliver, headmaster for Morgan Academy, said. “We will come together and support Jamie, Arsella and Lyla with our whole hearts. We offer our deepest sympathy to the Tellier’s extended family as well.”
Then, later this week, we learned that a 13-year-old football player had died after being rushed to the hospital.
Cohen Craddock, an eight grader at Madison Middle School in West Virginia, suffered an injury during practice. He was rushed to the hospital, where he ultimately died.
His father, Ryan Craddock, described this as a “bad dream” he can’t wake up from.
“I want to take the loss of my boy to try to protect the other guys,” His Craddock said, via Fox News Digital. “I don’t want anybody else to go through what we are going through currently.”
Our thoughts are with everyone during this difficult time.
