The shock player who tops NFL merchandise sales – beating Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce

Neither Patrick Mahomes nor Travis Kelce led the NFL in merchandise sales over the offseason despite winning their third Super Bowl to close last year’s chapter.

Over two weeks into the 2024-25 season, the NFL Players Association released the league’s Top 50 sales list – noting which players had the most officially licensed products sold.

With Mahomes falling second on the list, sophomore quarterback CJ Stroud of the Houston Texans had fans spending money over the offseason more than anybody else.

Stroud was named the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year after leading the Texans to a 10-7 record on top of the AFC South. Houston would also make their first postseason appearance since 2019 before losing to the Ravens in the Divisional playoffs.

Behind Stroud and Mahomes are Lions defensive end Aiden Hutchinson, Lions receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown, and Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow to complete the top 5.

Slots six through ten are occupied by Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts, his running back Saquon Barkley, Lions running back Jahmyr Gibbs, Cowboys linebacker Micah Parsons, and 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy.

Mahomes’ teammate and Chiefs kicker, Harrison Butker, went 11th on the list despite a controversial offseason. The kicker was under fire for his comments about women and the LGBTQ community during an infamous commencement address.

Nonetheless, Butker sold more merch in the offseason than Kelce, who sits 12th on the list. Kelce sits ahead of Aaron Rodgers, Jordan Love, and Garrett Wilson to close the top 15.

Other notable mentions are Josh Allen at the 16th, Russell Wilson at the 18th, Christian McCaffrey at the 23rd, and Tyreek Hill at the 28th slot.

Fellow quarterbacks Lamar Jackson, Trevor Lawrence, Tua Tagovailoa, Kirk Cousins, and Beker Mayfield sit at 30, 33, 40, 43, and 50, respectively. Meanwhile, Chiefs rising star Isaiah Pacheco secured the 32nd slot.

The Chiefs and the Eagles each had four players on the list. However, the Detroit Lions fanbase proved to show love to their players over the summer, with six players listed.

Detroit had plenty to celebrate after breaking a six-year playoff drought. Not having made it out of the first round since 1991, the Lions went all the way to the NFC Championship where they lost to the 49ers.

In another list counting merchandise sales from March 2023 through February 2024, Mahomes and Kelce fell third and fourth behind No 1 Jalen Hurts and No 2 Jason Kelce.
