Dwayne Johnson, popularly known as The Rock in the WWE universe, is among the most loved Hollywood celebrities now. The wrestler-turned-actor has enjoyed massive success in his acting career, with some spectacular performances.
Johnson’s fantastic physique has helped the megastar immensely by giving him the ability to stand out from others. His WWE fanbase and distinctive look gave him the foundation to build a career as an action star.
Some of Dwayne’s most notable roles were in the Fast and Furious and Jumanji Franchises. The megastar also gave stellar performances in movies like Black Adam, San Andreas, The Rundown, and Rampage, among others.
However, despite performing key roles in such blockbuster movies, Dwayne wasn’t able to bag every role he pursued. The megastar revealed this incident by himself in April 2020. He opened up about it during a Facebook video session with his fans.
Dwayne said, “In Hollywood, actors are kind of like in a box. There are actors that can vie for a particular role because it allows for them to have a certain look, skin color, size, etc. Fortunately, for me, there aren’t a lot of guys at all who look like me. So, all of my roles, from the beginning of my career, I’ve been a lucky son of a bitch that they’ve created and designed for me — except Jack Reacher.”
Dwayne Johnson lost ‘Jack Reacher’ to Tom Cruise
Jack Reacher was described as a character weighing about 250 pounds and standing 6 feet, 5 inches tall in Lee’s books. It might be the reason for Rock’s confidence about bagging the role. However, he lost the Jack Reacher role to Tom Cruise.
Dwayne’s physical attributes were the reason why he was pretty confident about bagging Jack Reacher. However, it wasn’t enough to help him land the role of Jack Reacher. The film was based on Lee Child’s book series about a former military police officer and was released in 2012.
Watching Tom Cruise in Jack’s character didn’t sit that well with those who knew about his physical attributes in the book series. It was the reason some of the fans were disappointed in the decision of casting Tom as the lead character.
Dwayne admitted that he was disappointed after losing the Jack Reacher character to Tom Cruise. However, he later understood business is business. Losing Reacher’s role hasn’t had much effect on Johnson’s career, as he has been able to achieve great success in Hollywood. Dwayne will be seen next in the upcoming Red One film, which is going to be released on Prime Video in 2023.
