Just one look at Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson, and his rock-solid 6ft5in physique, and it’s clear to see that he hits it hard in the gym.

But, it turns out, in order to get his massively sculpted body he also follows a seriously regimented schedule when it comes to his diet.

According to Stephen Merchant, who directed Johnson in the film Fighting With My Family (2019), the former professional wrestler is so dedicated to being in tip-top shape that he actually brings his own food to eat at restaurants.

The subject pf Johnson’s eating habit came up when Merchant was asked whether he was able to ‘do cheat meals with The Rock’ while working together on the movie, during an appearance on SiriusXM’s Jim Norton and Sam Roberts Show.

Merchant went on to reveal that Johnson, 50, actually organizes the exact time he should eat pre-planned meals to the exact minute.

‘I do remember having a meeting with him just in Texas just before WrestleMania and we were having a meeting about the movie and his alarm would go off at like 3:17 p.m. and he would go to the fridge and there would be turkey and rice with “3:17 p.m.” written on it and he would microwave it,’ the actor, writer and director revealed.

‘It was so regimented,’ Merchant noted, as the two hosts nodded in agreement about his food intake.

The Rock’s strict eating plan doesn’t end there. Merchant then remembered that the Hollywood leading man actually comes prepared when he dines out at restaurants.

‘I think someone told me, maybe he told me, that when he goes for dinner with friends he has to take his food to the restaurant and have them heat it up because it’s such a structured diet he has to have,’ he added.

Agreeing that Johnson’s restaurant ritual is a bit bizarre, host Jim Norton went on to imply that’s it’s par for the course for being a massive movie star and action hero.

‘That’s how you know you’re The Rock, when you walk into a restaurant, like “could you heat up this s**t I brought?” Like, “yeah, absolutely”,’ he shared.

Merchant went on to describe the incredible fan worship The Rock received when he saw him in action at WrestleMania.

‘I imagine it’s like if Elvis came back, just the response,’ he said of Johnson playing up The Rock image. ‘He picked up a flamethrower, and there was a giant wooden sign of “The Rock” on the stage. And he just spent 10 minutes setting fire to that with the flamethrower without saying anything. The crowd was screaming the entire time. And I was like “Wow, the entire time.’

In an Instagram post, Johnson shared about his daily workout routine that keeps him motivated in the gym.

‘Out of my 24hrs a day, I always try and allocate 2hrs for my training. (physical + mental),’ the Hercules star revealed, adding, ‘These two hours are for me. Only me. I can disengage and disconnect with the world. Anchor and recenter myself. Then push through pain barriers, disrupt and have an amazing workout.’

However, Johnson maintained that exercise doesn’t need be the ‘anchor’ for everyone: ‘Your anchor doesn’t need to be as intense as the gym. But the philosophy here is finding your anchor and protecting it.’

Johnson spent eight years wrestling with the WWF/E before going on to become a massive movie star.
