Geneva 2011: ABT R8 GTS

We were admiring Geneva’s beauties, when, all of a sudden, a team of ABT representatives invited us to a little chat about… attention neediness. This is the only way in which we can describe one of the flashiest aftermarket projects introduced at the Swiss event: the ABT R8 GT S.

ABT took the Audi R8 V10 Spyder by the hand an offered it a new identity, with the changes taking place at multiple levels. First of all, the topless German temptress was gifted with an outfit that combines a red chrome finish with carbon fiber, also fitting it with BR 20-inch or Superlight 19-inch rims.

The vehicle was fitted with multiple carbon fiber reinforced plastic elements, including the front skirt, rear skirt, windscreen frame cover, red air scoops, engine bonnet and mirrors.

The supercar’s V10 engine, which delivers 525 hp in stock form, now produces 620 hp, allowing the car to sprint from 0 to 62 mph in 3.6 seconds and offer a top speed of 200 mph (320 km/h). The tuner has also tweaked the suspension, in order for the vehicle to cope with the extra muscle.

“Red is the colour of love – and the Spyder ABT R8 GT S is on display in an elegant, (self-confident red chrome tone at the Motorshow Geneva. A contrast is provided by the middle section of the car with carbon dominating from the bonnet to the rear wing. When designing the car, the Motorsport Department of ABT Sportsline paid attention to weight reductions and the perfect distribution of weight,” stated the press release.
