Unlike the current sixth generation of the legendary Camaro pony and muscle car series, the C8 iteration of the iconic Chevy Corvette is thoroughly successful, right?
The 2024 Chevrolet Camaro model year is the last one for the current iteration, and after the range-wide Collector’s Edition plus 56-unit Garage 56 ZL1 special series, it will take some time off after production concludes in January 2024. General Motors has promised this is not the end of the road for the Camaro moniker but also shared that it has no immediate plans for a successor.
On the other hand, ‘America’s sports car’ is doing better than ever before after the eighth generation brought a paradigm change from a traditional front-engine RWD setup to a European sports car-fighting mid-engine strategy. And the C8 has proven highly successful to the tune of Chevrolet releasing so far not just the 490/495-hp Stingray but also a 670-hp FPC V8 Corvette Z06 and the first-ever eAWD, 655-hp electrified Corvette E-Ray.
More versions are in tow – the rumor mill speaks of the upcoming 850-hp Corvette ZR1, and there are even whispers of a potential supercar-class 1,000-hp Zora model! However, the imaginative realm of digital car content creators is of a different opinion. At least according to Oscar Vargas, the virtual artist better known as wb.artist20 on social media, who continues to dream of automotive stuff that he once created but never showed, maybe Chevy would be better off with an off-road C8 derivative!
Yep, that’s right, this pixel master envisioned the Chevy Corvette C8 would have what it takes to fight the likes of Porsche’s 911 Dakar and Lambo’s Huracan Sterrato. Of course, an off-road version of the American sports car would be more affordable (though probably not by much) than a Porsche 911 Dakar while also featuring a little more oomph (495 versus 473 hp).
Hey, if they meant business, they could even beat the 602-hp V10-powered LP 610-4 Sterrato if the company wanted the off-road C8 based on the 670-horsepower Z06, even if they detuned it to make it more reliable on uneven terrain! However, as unfortunate as it may be, this is all wishful thinking.
Still, it seems the author’s fans deeply appreciated the CGI idea – which comes complete with a front-mounted spare tire, additional fuel tanks, a revised ride height, plus what looks like beadlock-capable off-road wheels shod in meaty all-terrain tires.
So, do we like this presumptive off-road Chevy Corvette C8 more than the real world’s Porsche 911 Dakar and Lamborghini Huracan Sterrato? It’s also interesting to know the artist also cooked up a jacked-up version of the Ferrari 488, so maybe that’s more proper as virtual competition for the ultra-expensive special editions?
